The State Space Development Bureau was established by the Supreme People's Assembly in March 2013 as “a State central institution which guides and manages the supervision and control over the working out of a space development programme”. The UN Panel of Experts considers that this organization inherited or incorporated the principal functions performed by KCST, which was designated by the Security Council in January 2013.

The National Aerospace Technology Administration (formerly known as the National Aerospace Development Administration until September 2023) is involved in the DPRK’s development of space science and technology, including satellite launches and carrier rockets. In 2013, NADA has taken over the function and responsibilities of the Korean Committee for Space Technology.
