The Academy of National Defense Science is involved in the DPRKs efforts to advance the development of its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs.

According to Paragraph 49 (p. 24) of the UN Panel of Experts February 2015 report, the Academy of National Defense Science (KPe.021) is an alias of the Second Academy of Natural Sciences (KPe.018) but both are designated separately.
