As Minister of Communications and Information Technology, was instrumental in catalyzing a large amount of Foreign Direct Investments into Communication and Information Technology Sector of the country and persuaded many multinational telecom companies including Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson, Flextronics and Dell to set up units in the country; introduced `One Rupee One India` Plan across the country and rolled back, and achieved, the target of 250 million (against 75 million in May, 2004) telephone connections from Dec. 2007 to Dec. 2010; and participated in various Business and Management Programmes; and also attended Owner/President Management Programme, Harvard University, USA
