President, (i) Porters` Mazdoor Union, North Eastern Railways, 1965-70; (ii) Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchyat, Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, 1966-67; (iii) Panchayat Samiti for 15 years; (iv) Roadways Mazdoor Sabha, Uttar Pradesh, 1980-89; and (v) North Eastern Railways Mazdoor Union, 1992-94; Member, National Executive, Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchyat; participated in movements launched by Samyukta Socialist Party, Socialist Party and Janata Party; and arrested several times for (i) participation in Scheduled Castes Kashi Temple Entry Movement, 1954; (ii) Angreji Hatao Andolan, Remove English Name Plates Movement, Varanasi, Lucknow, Farukhabad, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Fatehpur and Deoria, 1954 and 1956; (iii) for championing the cause of people and against multinational companies, 1960 onwards; and (iv) Imprisoned for 21 months under MISA during Emergency, 1975-77; and prosecuted in 18 cases under Defence of India Rules (DIR)
